I love Buffalo. I usually buy that instead of ground beef mostly because it is illegal to stockyard feed em and pump em full of antibiotics, growth hormones, steroids etc...Plus it is much leaner.
Alligator is also delicious though I don't have a ready supply of it one of the sports bars out at John's Pass (aptly named Gators) serves it.
We were thinking about maybe serving muskrat at the dinner this year, but decided to stay away from something with "rat" in the name.
And for those that want to try something different but not too exotic, try grouse (or partridge, or pheasant, or hell, even peacock) in a stir fry. [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]
we used to eat a lot of "prairie chicken" years ago...I forget the proper name for the bird. might have been grouse. was quite tasty, either way.
one of the few things we ate that I actually killed m'self, apart from fish.
side note, don't shoot a bear with a bb gun. they don't like it much.
Deer meat rocks!! Cooked up some ribs for me and my daughter she ate damn near all of it!
With the points, it's a good way to tell age of a deer, as a hunter you want to weed out some of the older more dominate bucks. Which goes with moose, elk, prong horns etc. This allows the herds (younger bucks) more of a chance to live longer, yes I did take a buck that was very young but it was the very first deer I had a chance to get in the 3 years I have been hunting, and with a bow no less. Using a shot gun or rifle is rather easy.
I've got a rather poor couple that live near me and out of the 10 freezer bags I got from the deer I gave 4 of those bags to them.
I've had gator, it's freakin delicious, so's frog, shark, grouper, eel, etc. being from Florida I've had most everything from the water, and thanks to Lunkers Restraunt in Edwardsburg MI. I've had Osterich and mmose and elk. Damn gettin hungry.
big park around here called Lone Elk Park. buffalo and elk and deer all rome around. sometimes you cant even get past on the road due to the buffalo hanging out. pretty cool. big animals! wild to see the animals wander around without obstructions (well except all around the park)
Was watchin OLN (outdoor life network) this dude was hunting elk with a bow. He and his guide found a lone bull dude got behind a tree and the guide started calling the bull. within 5 minutes the bull was within 10 yards of the hunter. Kinda hard to miss that shot, the arrow went right thru the elk. Lucky it didn't smell the hunter and charge his ass!
